Back into the swing of things

I'm starting to get back into the swing of things around here. I have been very busy lately, but I'm trying to keep up with posting again. I just wanted to thank CHEWBONE ANIMATION for inviting me to screen at their wonderful event "Animation at the Portage". They put on a private event to show some up-and-coming Chicago animation and some past Chicago animation to friends and family. I wanted to thank them and display the event poster on my blog because I really thought it looked great.

I have been very busy lately, so I have a few things for this post! First, Cranium Theater has been selected to screen in the Hermosa Shorts Film Festival in Hermosa Beach California! It is also being programmed to screen at the Animation Nation festival in Singapore and a festival in Mexico. I will have more information about these soon.

OFFICIAL SELECTION

"Cranium Theater" has been selected to screen at the Winnipeg International Film Festival in Manitoba Canada. The festival is June 1st through 9th. I'm pretty excited about this fest even though I won't be able to attend. I've seen so many great short films and animation from Canada and I'm thrilled to be screening in the great wide north. www.winnipegfilmfest.com

HELP ME OUT!

I'm trying to get my page hits up on the deadCENTER film festival page so that my film shows up on the front page in the "Most Viewed" section. Please visit the following link to help me out. I know I'm a cheap and dirty self promoter, but you don't have to read it, just click!

The Journal of Short Film

Volume 7 of The Journal of Short Film (featuring my film "Cranium Theater") is tentatively slated to release on May 1st. To use the parlance of our time, it will "drop" on that date, or shortly after so check back here for more up to date info as it comes. You can also visit www.thejsf.org to order volume 7 when it is available. I will be getting some preview copies prior to that, so I will honestly let you know if it is worth your cash. (yes, it is.)

OFFICIAL SELECTION

"Cranium Theater" has just be selected to screen at the Maryland Film Festival. More details as they come. www.md-filmfest.com

Today I also received my mini dv tape back from the Crossroads Film Festival. They were really nice people and so far the quickest at returning my tapes. It had a bunch of tape and new labels on the case that they put there which I will now have to remove before sending it back out. I really have no reason to complain though because if they had been slower in returning the tape I would have had to pay to have a new one made.

What ever happened to Kathy Bates?

On Saturday I got a letter from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It was just to let me know they received my entry for the student academy awards, but it was still kind of cool to get a letter from there on the official letterhead. Maybe I'm just easily excited.

And if you're wondering what ever happened to Kathy Bates, it seems she is now a secretary.

Back from Mississippi

Over the weekend I was at the Crossroads Film Festival in Jackson Mississippi. My screening went well, although it was probably the coldest crowd reaction my film has ever gotten; the only laughs came from Dan...you know Dan, the nice guy from New York. Up to now it has only screened along with animation or other similar films and screened to mostly liberal audiences. I think that the docile crowd reaction was mostly because it was paired with a feature film set in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. The people seemed to enjoy my short based on the Q&A, but probably didn't know what to make of a stop motion short preceding a film of that nature, even though they dealt with similar subject matters.

Aside from that, everyone down there was nice and Popeye's has nothing on real southern red beans and white rice. And look, they had a giant R2-D2 mailbox!
